Shooter Solutions' Gun Blue works much differently than the other blues. It is a breakthrough. It only causes bluing reaction with the cleaned metal that is not blue: it leaves the rest undamaged until you neutralize the area. Nice for modern SKS, modern and antique Winchester, Single Action Sharps, Cowboy Action, etc. Complete chemicals and directions included with the Kit listed, except a used soft bristle toothbrush.
Arrow Wood Finish and Kleen and Brite family, formulated by inventors who designed them to do everything but “be” the stain. Arrow Wood Finish is inexpensive for what it does, and the quality of the finish you can get if you follow the complete directions is varied by the technique and what you need, and is a dynamic finish. The Kleen and Brite is designed to be an idiot-proof finish restorer than can be used as aggressively as needed.
Parkerizing, the Manganese type, excellent and well tried for their own usages are available. Gray Parkerizing = stuff that doesn't work, so zinc is discontinued.
The best there is, as used by Homeland security step up is the Manganese Metal Prep followed by the “go black” great “step up” in grain refinement.
The heaviest, strongest Parkerizing is still the Heavy-Duty darker (to black on some metals) Manganese. It is much more expensive to use than pale no good stuff, just like fizz drinks are correspondingly more expensive than pure water. But a clear choice for small parts, hardware, Harley Davidson Motorcycle Hardware, and Hand Guns, due to durability
For long barrels its still the Manganese Parkerizing, and smaller parts for the heaviest Parkering for the money, the half-half version kits are popular, half-half is less expensive than two kits, since the Parkerizing Finishing Neutralizer/Water Displacement/Protectant and Degreaser are twice the size, rather than two of each. Also one kit box instead of two are used.
MolyFusion(TM) The newest treatment available for professional use "only" four years now, which radically changes metal surfaces: but like all our chemicals of professional and industrial quality, it is vital you follow directions and ask for help when you are confused. This will cause dangerous conditions if used incorrectly. (A warning is included: It is a disadvantage and even catastrophic danger if all metal surfaces take on the properties of reduced friction, increased skin hardness, etc. used in the wrong application, etc.)
Follow-up Dry-Film cleaners and lubricants like Breakfree CLP are not needed on top of the MolyFusion'ed surfaces (inner or outer). just like abrasives aren't need on a lubricated surface
